The Gri-Gri will act as something of a “second-hand,” even if the worst should happen and the brake strand is released. Regardless of the context – sport, trad, multi-pitch, single pitch, trad, alpine – it is inherently safer than the ATC.

The Belay Certification Test requires a climber to successfully demonstrate the following procedures: 1. Put on a harness and properly tie into the harness using a Figure Eight Retrace knot with a backup. 2. Demonstrate the rope “on belay”.

To pass, the window well NEEDS to be white glove/spotlessly clean. It only takes 1/2 of one grain of salt of lead dust per square foot to fail. Ideally wooden windows are prepared in the morning for an afternoon inspection.
